History - "My Son Can Do It"
In 1952, Margaret Malone was sitting on her porch talking with a relative, when the sister of Von Coad came by. She mentioned that Von was looking for someone with experience to make and finish quality wood products for many different jobs. As she listened, she immediately thought of her son, Hugh, who had been woodworking for years. Not one to hold back, Margaret chimed in, "My son, can do it."
And sure enough, her son, Hugh, did do it. As a subcontractor for Von Coad, a retired New York Transit Authority worker, Hugh began manufacturing wood window sash for subway cars, turnstile arms and a variety of other wood parts. One short year later in 1953, Valley Woodcraft was established.
Two years after that, Hugh purchased the shares of Valley Woodcraft's stock from Von Coad. He expanded the business hiring a small team of employees to help increase production. They soon began designing and creating customized wood products for the transit, maritime, manufacturing, furniture, and construction industries.
When Malone Sr. married his wife Patricia, she joined him at Valley Woodcraft as office manager in 1956, where she worked for over 40 years. Malone Sr. established Valley Woodcraft as top quality manufacturer of industrial wood parts and products in the Wyoming Valley.
Upon his retirement in 1995, Hugh handed the company over to his two sons, Hugh Malone, Jr. and Daniel Malone. Hugh Jr.'s wife, Deborah, took over for her mother-in-law as the company's office manager in 1999.
Today, the top six staff members, who were originally trained by Hugh Malone Sr., continue to work for the company. Their dedication drives the consistent quality of craftsmanship that allows Valley Woodcraft to remain a step ahead of the competition.
The Malone family and their employees continue to provide the highest degree of quality and reliability with the industrial wood parts and products they produce. They continue to maintain the highest level of professionalism and strive to develop lasting relationships with each client served.
